It’s about the Soil…

Once it’s gone, it’s gone for good.

Soils in the Central Queensland’s Golden Triangle are amongst the most productive and fertile of Queensland.  In the Springsure Creek region alone, 80% of its total area was identified as Strategic Cropping Land - the best of our best food-producing soils in Queensland.  Within days of its announcement, the previous Labor Government secretly sold out its own Strategic Cropping Land policy and expert opinion, green lighting mining development in this region.

There is no evidence that Strategic Cropping Land can be successfully rehabilitated to its original condition after mining operations of any sort. Once the Golden Triangle soils are mined, they are gone for good.

It’s about our Environment…

Koalas, sugar gliders, quokkas – our farmers love and respect our native wildlife and actively preserve their habitat.

Despite community and government efforts in Central Queensland, biodiversity is declining through the loss of native species and habitats. Within the Springsure Creek EPC more than 15% of the total land area is comprised of riverine wetlands, native vegetation corridors and other remnant vegetation, through our farmers’ stewardship. Across Central Queensland, the most heavily cleared ecosystems have become endangered and now a high proportion of their remaining extent lies above coal resources.

Broadscale clearing of remnant vegetation by agriculture has ceased completely whereas mining has a rapidly expanding environmental footprint …

It’s about the People…

Notice there’s lots of pictures of kids on our site?

That’s because Central Queensland’s Golden Triangle is a family affair; more than 50 families live and work, and raise their children in the region.  Australia has many old, but very few young farmers but we’re bucking the national trend; More than half our population is under 45.  We’re local and we shop locally too. Nearly 100% of our income is spent in nearby towns of Springsure and Emerald contributing more than $23 million annually to the local economy.  We invest our time locally and actively volunteer with many community organisations.

A strong and sustainable agricultural sector is the foundation of our regional community. Mining the Golden Triangle will displace many young families and rob the region of its future.
